What A Difference A Day Makes

Hello all from Aberystwyth.

I had a lovely and peaceful night on the buoy in Fishguard and awoke to beautiful sunshine and just a light breeze, but little did I know now what was to come.

I set off following looking at the weather and listening to the coastguard’s forecast and got mixed signals, but looking at the two there was to be more wind than yesterday but not too much for another comfortable passage.

As I sailed along up the coast I was informed over the radio that the firing range was going to be active today from 1000hrs, oh no I hope I’m not going to be a moving target for them!! I radioed into the range and as long as I was hugging the coast I would be fine much to my relief.

Shortly after passing the range the wind decided that it was going to make an appearance and then it kept building, as I approached New Quay I was joined by two dolphins who accompanied me for the next hour.

Aberystwyth was then in sight but with the good wind we had with us I had arrived too early to enter the marina as you can only enter two and a half hours before high water. To kill a bit of time I decided to carry on up the coast and then span back around so I was ready to enter at the right time, the swell had started to build and as I made my approach into the harbour the waves were trying to spin me from one side to the other and it took all my concentration to get me in safe and sound which thankfully I did.

I must say I was longing for a shower when I arrived and the shower facilities here are something that wouldn’t be out of place in a top London hotel.

Until next time

Alex
